Starlab Mobile Planetarium
An activity suitable for most year groups.
Taking approximately one hour per session
Starlab is an inflatable mobile planetarium which can be erected in about 45 minutes. The night sky is then projected on the interior surface of the dome showing the stars and planets in their correct positions.
A normal sized hall is usually large enough to accommodate the STARLAB which needs a space of about four metre square and three metres high, It has a capacity for approximately 30 pupils per session which consists of an introduction, time inside STARLAB plus question and answer time. The minimum session time is approximately 45 minutes but this will not allow time for questions at the end.
Once inside various demonstrations are available and can include:
The cost of the STARLAB includes a presentation by a knowledgeable astronomer who takes the children through a journey in space and links this with the sky at night.
Schools outside the Greater Manchester/Lancashire area may incur travel expenses - please contact the STEM team office for details.
