The Greater Manchester STEM Centre challenges post-16 students to create a technological revolution!

Technology Challenge 5 - 9 July 2010:
Nine teams entered into the challlenge spirit for Science, Technology, and Engineering.

Mentoring and sponsoring companies were:
Analysis Mason, Atkins, Park Signalling, and United Utilities.  Sponsorship was again gratefully received from Warburton's of Bolton.

Congratulations to all who participated - in particular prizes were awarded to:
Loreto College - with a first place in one group and runners up places in both groups, and
Sale Grammar - winning the other group.



Technology Challenge is a science and engineering extravaganza held at the University of Manchester.

Participating shools this year were:
  • Loreto College,
  • Sale Grammar School,
  • Tytherington High School,

Projects are set and mentored by scientists and engineers from academia and industry.

Students respond creatively to the problems they face. Every team achieved a working solution to their problem, presented their results in a large display, and explained their project to an experienced and qualified team of judges. 

The projects were judged in two arenas and prizes awarded to the top two projects from each arena:

Arena A:
First Place - Loreto College, Team 1
Second Place - Loreto College, Team 3

Arena B:
First Place -
Sale Grammar, Team 2
Second Place - Loreto College, Team 4

All entrants received a silver BA Crest award.

Awards and prizes were presented by judges representing various Professional Institutes and Institutions: IET, ICE - and EDT -0 the Engineering Development Trust.
